MK Campbell Park Chiltern League report

Congratulations to all MKDP athletes who raced in the Chiltern Cross Country League match at a sunny Campbell Park, Milton Keynes, yesterday. Just as well the race wasn’t held today, or all the tents and runners would have been blown away…

MKDP results

In the U11 girls’ race, Eve Lord was 47th (7.02). There were 71 runners. In the U11 boys’ race, Morgan Bunn was 27th (6.03); there were 65 runners.

In the senior women’s race, Martinha Royles was 29th (F35) in a time of 28.49.

In the U13 boys’ race, Nic Hammett was 7th (9.55). This meant Nic kept his place as 2nd in the individual results to win the silver medal. Stan Baker-Smith was 49th (11.43). There were 93 runners.

Sophie Jacobs didn’t run yesterday, because she was ill, but the four results she has banked this season meant she retained her overall second place to win the silver medal (U13 girls).

George Wheeler was 3rd in the senior men’s race (27.45),which meant he kept his 1st place in the individual results to win the gold medal. Congratulations!

Here’s what George had to say about his race: ‘On the race itself I think “lost the battle, won the war” best sums it up. The legs were fairly tired after BUCS XC, so it was just a case of getting the job done. As for the series, it was very nice to win my first overall Chiltern XC. Having been racing it since I was 14, being in this position has always felt so far off, so to have finally achieved it is great. If I’m being honest, at this point in my running, winning the Chiltern overall was what I expected of myself – and hopefully it is a stepping stone on my way to greater achievements.’

Mick Greener came 17th (29.45),Devon Harford 35th (31.59),Paul Wright 76th (36.59),James Wright 86th (40.58) and Liam Bunn 89th (47.44).

This was the first race this season for MKDP for Devon, James, Paul and Liam. I coached the Wright brothers until their early 20s, when they took some time out from running. They joined MKDP when the club began, and race for us when they can. I also coached Devon until he was 17. Last year, he came back to running by competing in park runs and local races, and has now joined MKDP. Liam is dad to MKDP junior athlete, Morgan.

In the M40 race, Andy Jacobs was 30th (36.02). In the U20 men’s race, Mintu Sidhu was 9th (30.47) and Marcus Lovell was 11th (31.27). There were 370 runners.

This was the last match of the XC season. The overall MKDP team was 12th out of 14 teams, with 9286 points. The two clubs below us, Gade Valley Harriers and Queens Park Harriers, have been relegated. Three clubs have been promoted to Division 1: Headington Road Runners; Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow AC; and Bearbrook RC.

Kyle and I would like to thank every one of the MKDP athletes who competed for us in this year’s Chiltern XC. We only stayed in Division 1 by 1,343 points, so every single point counted. Special thanks go to the following athletes, who competed in either 4 or 5 events:
5 – George Wheeler, Marcus Lovell, Andy Jacobs, Nic Hammett, Stan Baker-Smith
4 – Eliot Winter, Mintu Sidhu, Sophie Jacobs, Morgan Bunn and Jed Okia.

We look forward to seeing you compete at the upcoming National, Inter Counties and Schools XC events, next season in the Chiltern XC League, and also on the track this summer. Thank you all again for supporting and competing for MKDP.
