Report on the CCL match at Keysoe Equestrian Centre, 11 January

Congratulations to all MKDP athletes who raced in the Chiltern Cross Country League match at Keysoe Equestrian Centre on Saturday. It was a chilly day with a strong head wind – especially up the long hill at the back of the course – and the ground was soft to very muddy in places. And of course there was the infamous water splash and the ditch – last year this was dry but this year it was very boggy with running water. This took a lot of runners by surprise, and there were a few falls here…

Here’s what Sophie Jacobs had to say about her race:
‘I thought I did well at Keysoe, considering the course was hard and really muddy. The start was tough and I couldn’t get out how I had wanted to, but I didn’t let it bother me. I liked the water jump because it was refreshing for your legs and there were inflatable sharks, which was funny!’

And Nic Hammett:
‘It was a hectic start but I managed to get away fast. It was hard on the back straight with the wind – a proper XC course. The water was cold and I had to run fast to avoid the killer whales. I felt comfortable and I was happy with how I ran.’

Yesterday was a great team effort by everyone – well done to you all, especially students who came home from university to race for us.

We need as many runners as possible to run each Chiltern League match and win points for the club. See you on 8 February at Campbell Park, Milton Keynes, for the last Chiltern of the season!
