Report on the CCL match at Keysoe Equestrian Centre, 11 January
Congratulations to all MKDP athletes who raced in the Chiltern Cross Country League match at Keysoe Equestrian Centre on Saturday. It was a chilly day with a strong head wind – especially up the long hill at the back of the course – and the ground was soft to very muddy in places. And of course there was the infamous water splash and the ditch – last year this was dry but this year it was very boggy with running water. This took a lot of runners by surprise, and there were a few falls here…
Here’s what Sophie Jacobs had to say about her race:
‘I thought I did well at Keysoe, considering the course was hard and really muddy. The start was tough and I couldn’t get out how I had wanted to, but I didn’t let it bother me. I liked the water jump because it was refreshing for your legs and there were inflatable sharks, which was funny!’
And Nic Hammett:
‘It was a hectic start but I managed to get away fast. It was hard on the back straight with the wind – a proper XC course. The water was cold and I had to run fast to avoid the killer whales. I felt comfortable and I was happy with how I ran.’
In the U11 girls’ race, Eve Lord was 47th (9.45) and Amelia Ellis 66th (10.39). There were 80 runners. In the U11 boys’ race, Jed Okia was 31st (8.44) and Morgan Bunn was 23rd (8.30); there were 61 runners.
Nikita Kay was 31st in the U15 girls’ race in a time of 18.35. There were 61 runners. Sophie Jacobs was third in the U13 girls’ race in 11.36. Nic Hammett was 2nd (11.22) and Stan Baker-Smith was 49th (14.23). There were 90 runners in the boys’ race and 80 in the girls’ race.
George Wheeler was 5th in the senior men’s race (36.20),Charlie Wheeler was 12th (37.50),Mick Greener 29th (39.42),Eliot Winter 68th (45.03),Andy Jacobs 35th (M40 category, 47.03) and Lee Adams 83rd (49.08). There were 350 runners. Mintu Sidhu was 8th in the U20 men’s race (39.41) and Marcus Lovell was 11th (40.54).
The overall MKDP team now sits 10th overall out of 14 teams, with 8000 points; the men’s team is 8th and the women’s team 14th. Full results are at http://www.chilternccl.co.uk/cl2019m41.htm
Yesterday was a great team effort by everyone – well done to you all, especially students who came home from university to race for us.
We need as many runners as possible to run each Chiltern League match and win points for the club. See you on 8 February at Campbell Park, Milton Keynes, for the last Chiltern of the season!
