Results from the England Athletics virtual 5K road running champs

Well, it’s lovely to be writing up race results after such a long break – and they are great results!

In the England Athletics virtual 5K road running champs, held over the weekend of 11–13 July, 10 athletes raced for MKDP.

Dani Chattenton was first in the Senior Women (SW) category, in an amazing time of 15.14 – just outside the Olympic qualifying time. Dani said: ‘I was really surprised with the time. We experimented with training during lockdown, which has been fun, and I thought I was in pretty good shape, but I never thought I’d run that quick. I had two friends pacing me and Kyle and another on bikes helping to make sure no one got in the way – I’m really grateful for their help.’

Cecilie Andersen was 32nd in the SW category in a time of 19 minutes. In the U20 women’s race, Alexandra Shipley was 3rd, with a time of 18.15, Emma Mears was 8th, with a time of 19.17, and Holly Jamieson was 17th, with a time of 22.16. The women’s team was second, with a combined time of 52.59: Dani Chattenton (15:14),Alexandra Shipley (18:15),Cecilie Andersen (19:00).

Alex Gruen, running in Australia, was 66th in the Senior Men’s race, in a time of 16 minutes. Joe Morrow was 69th with a time of 16.06. In the U20 men’s race, Matthew Chronicle was 18th (16.41),Marcus Lovell was 20th (17.20) and Devon Harford was 21st (17.35).

Well done to all athletes who raced – these are brilliant times, showing that everyone has been working and training hard during lockdown.
