Nic competes in the Mini London Marathon for the East team

On Saturday 22 April, Nic Hammett competed for the second time in the Mini London Marathon. The course was a fast 2.6km around St James’s Park in front of Buckingham Palace, finishing on the Mall just as the marathon runners would do the next day.

Nic won the Beds XC county champs back in January, which meant that he was picked to race for Bedfordshire in the East team. The East team is made up of runners from Beds, Essex, Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.

Nic was 50th in the U17 race, and the East team was 7th overall. The other East team members were Ewen Taylor, Sam Plummer, Ben Peck, Tim Bongaerts and Tommy Cropley.
Here’s what Nic had to say about the whole experience:

‘It was great to spend the weekend in London and meet the rest of the East team. We enjoyed meeting Jake Wightman and hearing about his life and training in a Q&A session the night before the race. The race went very quickly – there was a great atmosphere with lots of supporters cheering.’
