Sophie and Joe compete in the first race of the ATW XC series

A huge ‘well done’ to Sophie Jacobs and Joe Morrow, who competed in the first race of the Active Training World Merchant Taylors’ Cross Country series on Saturday.

Joe was 6th in the 8k men’s senior race, in a time of 26.17, and Sophie was 7th in the 4k U15 girls’ race, in a time of 16.40.

Jim said: 'Sophie and Joe had great races yesterday, in very wet and windy conditions on a muddy, twisty course.'

Joe said: ‘I started in the second wave of 6 and did my best to close the 15-second gap to the front group, but didn’t manage to make a dent. In the end, I finished in 6th, 19 seconds down on the last of group 1 and at the front of group 2 after a good battle in the last mile. All in all, a fantastically well-organised race in perfect cross country conditions, with plenty of cornering practice on the slippery school playing fields.’

Further races in this series are planned for Saturday 19 December and Sunday 10 January, lockdown permitting.
